Main Line, PA

The “Main Line” area, so named for Pennsylvania Railroad’s Main Line train line, is home to some of the most sought-after addresses in the suburbs of Philadelphia. In the 19th Century, the area attracted many of the social elite. Often families had a home in the city and a larger “country home” on the Main Line. Located northwest of the city, you’ll find some of the most charming towns, including Merion, Narberth, and Ardmore, featuring walkable downtown areas and a robust suburban life. The Main Line is also home to several notable higher education institutions such as Villanova University, Bryn Mawr College, and Haverford College to name a few, and some of the top hospitals in the area including the Main Line Health system. The area is now served by SEPTA’s R5 line connecting Center City Philadelphia to Thorndale, and Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor service connecting Philadelphia to Harrisburg and beyond. One of Carmine’s favorite spots is Fermentaria in Ardmore, a brewpub set in a historic trolley repair shop.
